New regulations on looped reins (Alice reins)

January 23, 2025 Katy 0

In 2024, the FEI and British Dressage updated their regulations for Alice Reins due to Health and Safety considerations. The key updates are as follows:

  • A maximum of four loops per rein, with each loop strap measuring no more than 30cm in length (measured inside the loops).
  • Loops may be attached to the rein using a fixed attachment or via a clip-on loop that allows for adjustments.
  • Each rein may have up to eight attachments or a maximum of six fixed finger loops stitched to the rein. Each loop must measure no more than 10cm in length.

RDA will adopt these regulations for the 2025 Regional Qualifiers, National Championships, and beyond. While RDA no longer recommends the old-style loop reins, groups may continue using them for the next six months to allow time for replacements where needed. Click here to purchase the new Alice Reins

Hi, I’m Skye! I’m 10 years old and ride at Wyfold RDA. My favourite thing about RDA is the people—everyone here is so kind! My favourite horse is Pluto because he’s amazing to ride and has helped me so much with my progression. My favourite activity? Going for hacks and cantering—it’s the best!

Oliver’s RDA story – Broadlands RDA

January 8, 2025 Katy 0

My RDA story with Broadlands

My name is Oliver I am 8 years old I started riding with Broadlands back in 2022 I really struggled with I first went because I’ve never been around horses before but everyone was so kind up there and made me feel at ease.

After a little while I got on the horse which was creagy once I was on him I was in love I absolutely love riding creagy he is my favourite horse at Broadlands’s and he always makes me feel so much better when I go up on a Thursday morning. Fast forward to July 2023 I took part in my first horse show I was so nervous and excited but once I got going I was fine. After taking part in 3 different categories I then took part in the final one where I become reserved champion I was over the moon.

Since then I have taken home a lot of rosettes and they hang proudly in the house. Thursday is the best day of the week when I get to go up to the stables and see all the horses and the volunteers who I absolutely love to chat too. I would be lost without Broadlands’s I can’t explain how happy it makes me feel being up there and riding, They have changed my life so much thank you Broadlands for everything you have done.
